Subtlety, elegance and dynamism are the key attributes of the Alfama Quartet, which is now one of the most prominent young ensembles on the Belgian music scene.
Five years on, the Quartet continues to work under the expert guidance of the Danel Quartet. Following its selection in 2006 by the European Centre for Chamber Music ‘ProQuartet’, Alfama has studied under Walter Levin (Lasalle Quartet) and Rainer Schmidt (Hagen Quartet). This year, the Quartet will further benefit from the advice of Heime Muller (Artemis Quartet) and Eberhard Feltz. Alfama has recorded Leo Brouwer’s Quintet on the Fuga Libera label with the guitarist Denis Sung-Hô, named as the Rising Star of 2004/2005, as well as the complete works of Frederic Devreese for string quartet on the Kalidisc label. Both of these recordings have been unanimously well acclaimed by Belgian and international music critics. The Quartet’s third recording will be of the Quartettsatz. This is planned for autumn 2010 and will come out on the Fuga Libera label. The Alfama Quartet is increasing its number of performances in Belgium and abroad, particularly with the young French pianist, Guillaume Coppola. The Quartet receives financial support from the French-speaking Community of Belgium. |
